About the Stamm Foundation

Since 1999, we have been working to improve the living conditions of children and vulnerable communities in Burundi, through education, health and empowerment.

OUR STORY

A presence rooted in Burundi for over 50 years

The Stamm Foundation was created in August 1999 by Verena Stamm, who had been living in Burundi since 1972. Her knowledge of the country, its culture and its people enabled her to work closely with the inhabitants and their real needs.

A trained nurse with skills in accounting and organization, she long coordinated the foundation herself. In 2017, she received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her work.

Born from the care of women and children in refugee camps during the civil war, the foundation now supports numerous projects in several provinces: street children, former child soldiers, orphans, victims of violence, refugees and excluded people.

GOAL & OBJECTIVE

Giving the younger generation a chance

The foundation provides assistance to groups most affected by the civil war—children, youth, and young women—so they can lead self-reliant lives in a peaceful Burundi. Combating poverty and promoting self-reliance are essential steps toward stabilizing the country.
